MEDIA PLANNING & LAYOUT

THE PRESS FORWARD

Our capstone Public Relations class saw us work for client Press Forward, a non-profit partnering with research firms to improve media coverage of sexual assault cases, and to promote diversity and women in leadership positions, especially in the media.  We pitched this book, all of which I designed and put together, in competition with the rest of our class and won.

My primary pieces of this project were: all research, design elements of all social and other ads as well as the book itself, rebranding, repositioning, website creation and redesign, and podcast rebrand.

DASEIN HEALTH

Dasein Health was one of our Media Planning class's featured clients. Among a number of teams, we worked all semester creating a plan for Dasein's next steps. We pitched their CEO and won in the competition, and the hypothetical business. I again conducted a large portion of the research, designed the entire book, created a new website for Dasein, redesigned their logo and completely revamped their social media graphics and strategy. The logo on the front is currently in use by the Dasein team.

NASA@WORK

Upon arriving at NASA Johnson, I was paired with a group called CoECI—a task force for innovation through industry-government partnerships. I immediately understood that this group didn't need just a few social media tweaks; they needed a media overhaul, something to lift them out of internal NASA obscurity. Discovering their NASA@Work program lacked anything close to a media plan, I spent my summer conducting original research, cold-calling other NASA centers, compiling data, redesigning their entire brand, writing brand standard copy and designing, formulating and finally composing a complete media plan for the group. My parting recommendation was to hire a full time employee to fill my position—and they did.

GROOVY AUTOMOTIVE

Out of my first media planning class came Groovy Automotive, our theoretical client for the semester-long project. My team and I spent our time researching, developing copy, devising a media strategy and working on our pitch. This book, to me, is largely an illustration of my love for layout design. I put my heart into brand consistency here.

PERSONAL LAYOUT STUDIES

My appreciation for creative layout as a framing method for beautiful copy is illustrated in the samples below. I began writing a rather quippy fake magazine piece on the pink spread, and the photos are all mine, from an outing with a few friends. Layout construction is an important piece of the writing process, as I believe the framing and visuals serve just as much purpose as a good hook.
